Pauline Farrugia, clarinet: Pauline holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from The University of Toronto, a Master’s Degree in Chamber Music from McGill University and a Doctorate in Performance also from McGill. In addition, she has studied music performance at the State University of New York at Buffalo and participated in numerous masterclasses with world renowned clarinettists such as Karl Leister and Anthony Gigliotti. In addition to The Estria Woodwind Quintet, Ms. Farrugia is also the clarinetist of The Uplands Chamber Players in Sherbrooke, Québec and she is frequently invited to give solo recitals in the region. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed for the Estria and Uplands concert series as well as for Musique Chez Nous, The Lakeshore Society Chamber Music Series, Les Concerts Ponticello, La Société de Musique Contemporain du Québec and many others here and abroad. She has been recorded and broadcast by La Société Radio-Canada on numerous occasions and, with Estria, has recorded three compact discs on the ATMA Classique and Centrediscs labels. Ms. Farrugia has inspired the composition of a large number of new Canadian works, the majority of which she has premiered on Radio SRC and recorded on CD. As a teacher, she has taught clarinet at the McGill Conservatory of Music, where she still adjudicates clarinet and saxophone examinations. She currently directs the chamber music program at Bishop’s University where she also teaches clarinet and saxophone. |
