| The Estria Woodwind Quintet gets its name from The Eastern Townships region of Québec (l'Estrie) where it was founded in 1997.
In addition to its own concert season in the townships, Estria has presented concerts with the Musique Chez Nous chamber music series (Lennoxville, QC), the contemporary music series of the Musica Nova Ensemble (Sherbrooke, QC), Concerts de la Place de la Cité (Sherbrooke, QC), Le Festival du Lac Massawippi (North Hatley, QC), the Five Penny New Music Series (Sudbury, ONT), the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society series (Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC), the Charing Cross Hospital Chamber Music Series (London, England) and the Malta International Arts Festival (Mdina, Malta).
Many of Estria's concerts have been recorded and broadcast by La Société Radio-Canada and the group's first compact disc, on the label ATMA Classique, was nominated as finalist for Le Prix Opus of Le Conseil Québecois de la Musique in the category of Disc of the Year Modern and Contemporary Music. In addition to the classical and romantic repertoire for woodwind quintet, Estria is firmly dedicated to the music of our time and has commissioned and premiered more than twenty Canadian works for winds. Each year, Estria presents a series of varied and interesting concerts, in addition to continuing to commission and record new Canadian works.
