Background Information

What follows is a brief outline of my professional background.

Henri Thibodeau is a graduate from Concordia University (Montréal, Canada) in Communication Studies (cum laude).

For several years, Henri Thibodeau wrote as a freelance reporter for some of Québec’s most prestigious publications, such as Les Affaires and COMMERCE magazine.

For a list of articles by Henri Thibodeau published in COMMERCE magazine and Les Affaires from 1990 to 1993.

Henri was also a regular contributor for Le journal de Québec and Le Soleil, in Quebec City.

During the same period, Henri worked as a freelance reporter and photographer for specialized trade and business publications such as:

Over the last few years, Henri moved away from journalism and reporting. He has worked as a professional translator for such organizations as Combined Insurance Company of America, Al-Anon Family Groups Headquarters, and Grolier, publisher of the Book of Knowledge.

Le Livre de l’année - GROLIER

Since 1987, Henri has made regular contributions to the Livre de l’année, the French Canadian edition of the Book of Knowledge’s annual update. The Book of Knowledge is published by Grolier, member of the Scholastic group of publishers.

Softtitler

Henri Thibodeau worked as an independent translator by Solftitler on the translation of DVD subtitles.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Softitler operates out of six international offices with 160 employees and more than 800 translators.

In 2006, Henri Thibodeau has worked on French Canadian subtitling for such DVDs as Mission Impossible 3, The Conformist, and Scoop (by Woody Allen).

Combined Insurance Company

In 2000, Henri joined Combined Insurance Company's Canadian translation team, working on a wide variety of projects in the training, marketing and legal areas.

In 2001 and again in 2005, Henri Thibodeau contributed to the French translation of Combined Insurance Company’s Canadian website.

Combined's Canadian head office is based in Markham, Ontario.

Combined Insurance Company of America was founded in 1919 by W. Clement Stone. Operating in Canada since 1956, its product line consists of accident, disability, health and life insurance sold to individuals, families, professionals and businesses.

Henri has also developed a sound understanding of the business world.

Camping and Tourism Industry

Since the summer of 2000, Henri has worked as administrative assistant for Camping Belle-Vue, in Sainte-Croix de Lotbinière (Québec).

This four-star campground has received numerous awards for outstanding customer service and the quality of its installations.

In 2005 and 2006, Camping Belle-Vue won the campers’ choice award from the Quebec camping and RVing federation (FQCC).

The camping industry also recognized Camping Belle-Vue’s achievements with the Development and Innovation Excellency Award.

In 2007, Camping Belle-Vue celebrated its 40^th anniversary with a revamped website. You can visit the new website by clicking here or on the above logo. The new website was realized by Henri Thibodeau using Microsoft FrontPage 2003.

Book Retail Industry

Before joining Camping Belle-Vue's team, Henri Thibodeau worked as a manager for Chapters bookstores in both British Columbia and Ontario.

Now owned by Indigo Books & Music inc., Chapters is one of Canada’s major book retailers.

Book Publishing Industry

In 1993, Henri revised and edited an original manuscript by author Pierre Noury: L’infirmière.

Henri then went forward and published this book under the banner of his own publishing house, Éditions de l’Aurore.

This is the autobiographic story of a young man who is hospitalized without much hope of getting out alive. However, a young nurse refuses to give up on him, and a miracle happens – twice over...

Recent and Current Projects

Vivavision Group

Since the fall of 2005, Henri has worked for Vivavision Group as a freelance translator.

This is how Vivavision’s corporate website describes its mission: "To make intelligent wholesome entertainment for the whole family. With no nudity, no gratuitous violence, all our productions are intended to reach a television audience equivalent to a G-rated film audience."

Henri has translated different pre-production documents (project outlines and scripts) from English to French and from French to English for Vivavision and Vivaclic, its division responsible for producing youth programming.

Simon the ManKar

This inspirational tale by author Garry Leblanc, edited by Henri Thibodeau, has just been released by PublishAmerica, from Frederick, Maryland.

Simon meets a mysterious being, who kindly offers his assistance in helping him rediscover his true self so he may find the joy and peace of mind which have been eluding him. This is a challenging and rewarding story, for Simon and reader alike. It questions our beliefs regarding sin, forgiveness, and the origin of our guilt.

Translating for an international non-profit organization

In 2004, Henri Thibodeau has translated into French a 380 pages daily reader for a non-profit, anonymous international organization based in Virginia Beach, VA.

Since 2003, Henri has translated the French edition of this organization’s quarterly bulletin, for distribution to its French-Canadian membership.
