Blue Seed

Blue Seed

16 years ago, the Arigami, a race a monsters that have been asleep for thousands of years, have awaken. Now, they are ready to reach there goal: the eradication of mankind. Japan only hope is now the Kushinada, Momiji Fujimiya. Since ancien times, the Kushinada have used there powers to protect Japan. But this power has a high price: to generate what will be called the "Kushinada pulse", the Kushinada must die.

Helping Momiji is the TAC, a secret governmental organization created to investigate and fight the Arigami. Momiji is also protected by Mamoru Kusanagi a sort of human/Arigami hybrid created by Yamata-no-Orochi, an Arigami, in order to protect the Kushinada from harm (after all, if she dies, the Arigami are in deep trouble). Kusanagi first tries to kill Momiji in order to be free, but he later sides along Momiji and the TAC in their fight against the Arigami.

Can they defeat the Arigami? Will Momiji have to do the ultimate sacrifice?

Blue Seed definitively goes on my "must see" list. It's really a great serie and it got me hooked until the end. It funny, as a lot of action, a great storyline, a bit of romance. Not to mention that the artwork is very nice and the intro and ending songs are cool. My guess is that any average anime fan would probably like it.

I haven't seen the subbed version, but I've read on a Blue Seed page ( http://www.concentric.net/~Amagai/blueseed/ ) that it wasn't perfect. Here how it's actually said:

"Much of the charm rests on Hayashibara Megumi's portrayal of the heroine, Momiji, who is not only a klutz, but also not very bright (supposed to be about 35 percentile in her class). Her diction is hilarious, but it's difficult to translate except via good dubbing. Now, I haven't had an opportunity to listen to the dubs, so I don't really know how good that is, but this is one of those cases (NukuNuku being another) where subbing just can't do the job, however good the translation."

I have personally seen the dubbed and I really liked it. Was it really well done? Depends on people criteria. I'd say yes, but I'm sure a lot of people would disagree If you ask if it sounds like the original voicing, then I can't tell, I haven't listen to the original version. I especially like Kusanagi's voice. In any case, what ever the version, just rent it if you can (I suggest renting, because it's 26 episodes on 13 tapes and that's a lot of tape to buy).

Apparently, there would be a second Blue Seed serie. I don't anything about it, except from the fact that A.D. Vision is supposed to release it in America eventually. If anyone as some kind of info, please tell me at rakna@globetrotter.qc.ca
