Slayers
Slayers is the story of little sorceress Lina Inverse, a somewhat twisted Robin Hood look-alike who steels from thieves to give to herself.
After having trashed most of the members of a gang of bandits called the Dragon Fangs and taken part of their loot, our red headed heroine finds herself ambushed by the surviving men of the gang. Just when she's about to toast them, she is "rescued" by the skilled swordsman but not so bright Gourry Gabriev. Even though Lina is far from being the "gorgeous babe" Gourry had hoped to save, he decides to become the protector of what he believes to be a lost, defenceless, breastless child. From there begins an adventure that will decide the world fate.
Slayers is divided into two parts, Slayers and Slayers Specials. Slayers is the TV series and tell us the story of Lina, Gourry and there friends. So far, three series have been released, Slayers, Slayers Next and Slayers Try. Slayers Specials happens before the time where Line travels with Gourry and is up until now composed of three film and OVA. In specials, Lina share her adventures with Naga The White Serpent, an other wacky sorceress with a body far more developed then Lina's and a laugh so annoying it's almost scary.
Even though I haven't yet seen much animes series yet, I believe that Slayers is one of the best there is. The story, beside being appealing and action packed, is well built and is actually more complex than what one could think at first (I was surprised, while reading synopsis and reviews, to discover how actually the three existing series hold down together). Some people would say that the artwork is somewhat average, but I disagree. I think it's great. But my opinion might not reflect the general opinion since I'm not too crazy about realistic artwork: I prefer anime characters to look like anime characters, especially if the anime is an humorous one. My recommendation: get it, get it, get it! And it doesn't matter if you choose dub or sub: both are just excellent (I especially like Lisa Ortiz's job as the dub - and in my heart only - Lina Inverse).
