Sailormoon
Sailormoon is a story about a klutzy, crybaby, 14 year old girl called Tsukino Usagi who was given, after an encounter with a talking cat named Luna, a magical brooch that gave her the ability to transforms into a sailor suited fighter called Sailormoon. Sailormoon main goals are to fight evil (for love and justice in the name of the moon) and to find the Moon Princess, but things don't go too well (it's hard to fight the usual Monster Of The Day). Luckily, she's almost saved every time by the handsome and mysterious Tuxedo Mask and later team up with other girls (Mercury, Mars, Venus and Jupiter) gifted like herself of great power.
Even if some people who works in a dubbing company I wont name think otherwise, Sailormoon as been, and still is, a world wide success. Why? Well, it's hard to tell. Maybe it's because it's a modern fairy tale, where young girls can transform into superheroine, trash nasty monsters and meet there prince. Maybe it's because these five girls have to deal with the daily problems everyone has to face, along as they have to face the dark threats of the Dark Kingdom, the Black Moon Family, the Dead Busters, The Dead Moon and the Sailor Warriors of the evil Galaxia. Maybe it's because of the romance, the humour, the action. Maybe it's because it's aimed at everybody, boys and girls, kids and adults. Maybe it's because you can find yourself in one of the characters: the lazy and crybaby Usagi with a heart as big as the moon, the serious and brilliant Ami, the strict but friendly Rei, the strong and yet sensitive Makoto or the goofy and enthusiastic Minako. Or maybe it's success lies in all of these reasons.
Frankly, Sailormoon will always keep a place in my favourite list. I think it's a one of a kind and it was the show that seriously waked up in me the desire to discover more anime. Although the storyline of the original manga is in my opinion way superior to the anime, both are still good (the main problem with the anime being the repetitive pattern: in each episode you know that Sailormoon will get in trouble, someone will help and say "Now Sailormoon!"). The artwork goes from average to great (for the animation, my favourite season is SuperS: I love the Super outfit as much as I dislike the Eternal in Stars). The sounds effect and music of the first two seasons aren't great, but it gets a lot better after. I actually have two original Sailormoon soundtrack CD's, plus the North American CD and I like them a lot (if some of you are interested to know, my favourite songs are Moon Revenge and the SailorStars theme song).
If some of you hasn't watch yet at least one Sailormoon episode, then I only have one comment: What are you waiting for!?
